A brand-new privately owned emergency veterinary hospital is opening in Fredericton, New Brunswick, bringing top-tier emergency and urgent care to the region. As a sister clinic to Port City Emergency Veterinary Hospital, we offer the strength of established support while maintaining an independent, locally focused approach.
Veterinary Assistants play a crucial role in supporting our veterinarians and technicians during high- stress, fast-paced situations. You will assist in delivering urgent and life-saving care and handling a variety of cases. The ideal candidate will have experience in an emergency setting, be able to think quickly under pressure, and possess excellent communication and organizational skills.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist veterinarians and technicians with emergency medical procedures and patient care.
- Prepare and maintain treatment areas, ensuring they are clean, organized, and fully stocked.
- Provide excellent animal husbandry, feed and walk patients, and provide comfort during their stay in the hospital.
- Handle emergency patients, including those requiring immediate resuscitation or stabilization.
- Aid in performing diagnostic procedures, such as taking radiographs and assisting with restraint during blood draws, etc.
- Provide support and comfort to pet owners.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records in our practice management system.
- Assist in emergency surgeries as needed, including prepping surgical areas and providing instrument support.
- Ensure compliance with safety protocols and infection control procedures.
- Greet and assist clients, handle incoming calls and messages, and ensure client records and appointments are organized; these duties are included in the coverage of Reception.
What We Offer:
- Competitive Hourly Wage: $18–$22/hr. depending on experience.
- Flexible Rotational Shift Work: 4 on / 4 off rotation covering 8am-8pm, 12pm-12am, 8pm-8am.
