The Position
Essential Job Functions: The following are the essential duties and responsibilities required for this position. The candidate must be able to perform all the following duties and responsibilities with or without reasonable accommodation:

Medical:
• Performs physical examinations, diagnoses, and treats diseases
• Oversees restraint or immobilization procedures necessary to enable examination
• Collects blood, tissue, and secretion samples for analysis and testing
• Reviews and analyzes pathology records
• Performs routine and complex surgical procedures
• Develops diagnostic and treatment plans for patients based on differential diagnoses developed through complete problem-based assessment
• Transitions patients to overnight care as needed and communicates effectively with referral hospitals in order to ensure continuity of patient care
• Documents patient medical and surgical records with details on all patient exam findings, diagnostics, treatments, medications, client interactions, and tentative and confirmed diagnoses
• Participates in Company’s on-call rotation
• Develops a rapport with clients, understands their desires, clearly communicates exam findings of pet’s problems, presents treatment plans, and educates clients on preventive health care
• Resolves patient care problems, client complaints, and referral partner issues

Leadership:

• Mentors and maintains a healthy hospital culture motivated to excel
• Implements policies relating to the practice of medicine
• Addresses and corrects issues affecting the quality of care provided in the hospital
• Participates in the recruitment, hiring, coaching, mentoring, and supervision of DVMs and paraprofessional staff
• Follows all best practices related to applicable occupational and safety regulations
• Conducts performance reviews and assists in the preparation and implementation of annual developmental plans for DVMs and paraprofessional staff
• Helps identify and plan for upcoming challenges in maintaining hospital operations

• Prioritizes projects and completes them in the order of greatest importance, impact, and alignment with Company targets and goals.

• Participates in and promotes the Company’s culture, including utilization of the Traction methodology, and attends meetings as requested (whether held during or outside of a hospital shift)

Financial:
• Reviews and guides the financial and strategic business development to improve hospital profitability
• Proactively monitors financial progress of hospital, analyzes results, and adjusts, if necessary, to ensure all budget goals are achieved
• Participates in the yearly budgeting process, monthly P&L reviews, and discusses weekly financial reports

Administrative:
• Assists in ensuring the hospital complies with the applicable provincial veterinary medical practice act, bylaws, and other applicable regulations
• Provides guidance on ordering of drugs and medical supplies
• Positively represents the hospital in the professional community and to the general public
• Stays up-to-date with new medical information and changes in veterinary medicine and attends Continuing Education meetings
• Performs additional duties as assigned

The Candidate
● Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from an accredited university
● 3-5 years of experience, preferred
● Licensure in good standing to practice in the province where the hospital is located
● Experience with mentoring and training other DVMs preferred
● Compassionate team player with a positive attitude
● Enthusiastic about sharing your knowledge and expertise with other DVMs and team members
● Proven leadership skills and a desire to build long-term relationships
● Professional-level verbal and written communication
● Commitment to continuous professional and personal improvement for you and your team

● Excellent time-management and delegation abilities
● Ability to work around sick or fractious animals, zoonotic diseases, hazardous materials, cleaning chemicals, and anesthetic gas
● Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
