Fredericton Animal Hospital is a companion animal veterinary hospital that provides 24 hour pet care. We have 16 staff and 5 doctors and are accredited by the American Animal Hospital Association. We have grown in size and scope and need an experienced people manager to ensure the smooth operation of the hospital.
In this full time role, you will be responsible for managing and coaching our support staff (technicians, assistants and receptionists) to achieve their best. The chief of staff is a member of the management team, which includes the medical director and hospital administrator.
Job Responsibilities
Actively supervises and develops our support staff towards the goal of providing high quality patient care and excellent client service
Manages the hiring, training, reviewing, mentoring, disciplining and termination of technical staff. Builds and maintain a high performance team that excels in their chosen careers
Ensures the smooth operation of the hospital by executing the hospital’s policies and procedures and works with the management team to make improvements
Ensures patient care is delivered by staff at the highest possible standard of care
Demonstrates and reinforces the highest level of client service and handles client issues and concerns with aplomb
Creates the staff schedule, manages leave requests, approves payroll, and manages labour costs to budget
Skills and Abilities
Excellent interpersonal and communications skills and a friendly, patient and positive attitude
A love of human resources management and the desire to “lean in” to solve issues
Detail oriented and highly organized
Flexibility and openness to deal with an environment of changing priorities; curiosity, and a desire to learn and continuously search for “a better way”
A deep appreciation for the realities of the delivery of veterinary care
Able to work on your own with minimal supervision and model an “owner” attitude
Knowledgeable about modern human resources best practices and a strategic mindset
Ability to work a flexible schedule and invest the necessary amount of time to accomplish the required responsibilities
3 to 5 years of experience in a high impact people management role, including customer service experience
Experience in a busy medical environment (veterinary, dental, human medicine, etc.) is a definite asset, but we will consider applicants who demonstrate strong leadership abilities in any environment. Strong people management skills are more important than experience in medicine.
A university degree is a definite asset
Strong computer skills: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and the ability to quickly learn online software programs and our practice management software
Strong knowledge of payroll procedures and labour standards
